It's time to go back to Sabah!
Traveling from one part of Borneo to another is always an adventure. The journey from Miri, Sarawak, to Sabah was no exception. This time, we will travel from Miri, Sarawak since this is nearer to the Brunei border.
Here, I want to share the highlights and experiences of our trip.
On 29 Dec 2024, we travelled from my kampung to Miri and stay one night in Miri. My plan was I want to bring my family jalan-jalan at beach and food hunting at Miri. But, the disaster hit! I'm getting sick, I suddenly got sakit kencing. I'm unable to kencing, whenever I go its hurt like crazy! We went to see doctor and the doctor said, I am tired of travelling and asked me to rest. So, we back to our hotel and I went sleep after eat medicine and just like that, we just stayed in our hotel room.
We stayed at EMart Hotel in Miri. This is our first time staying here but too bad, I don't take photos and video because I'm too sick.
Tips:
If you want to travel from Sarawak(Miri) to Sabah with less traffic, please start your travel around 7.30am or even better early because less traffic during this time.
For your reference, here is our route during our travel from Sarawak(Miri) to Sabah(Tenom).
The Route
The route we took was the Miri–Brunei - Lawas– Brunei - Sipitang– Tenom road. This is one of the most scenic drives in Borneo, with lush rainforests, serene rivers, and the occasional view of majestic mountains. The road conditions were decent overall, though there were a few bumpy stretches that added a little extra excitement.
Highlights Along the Way
Crossing the Borders The journey involved passing through the Brunei border twice, which was a unique experience. Ensuring all our documents were in order made the process smooth. The officers were courteous and efficient, making it hassle-free.
Temburong District in Brunei Driving through this part of Brunei was fascinating. The roads were well-maintained, and the views were breathtaking. We also noticed the pristine condition of the surrounding nature, which made the drive even more enjoyable.
Sipitang Before reaching Tenom, we stopped in Sipitang, a charming town known for its seafood. We had a delightful meal at one of the local eateries and enjoyed the hospitality of the people.
Challenges
No journey is without its challenges. The long hours on the road tested our patience, but we kept each other entertained with music, stories, and games. Keeping our child comfortable was a priority, and frequent stops helped manage that.
Arrival in Sabah
Reaching Sabah felt like a major milestone. The moment I saw the Sabah flag at Sindumin border, it's feel relief. It marked the end of a tiring but fulfilling journey.
