The Anticipation and Packing
Before the trip, I felt a mix of excitement and nerves. Packing for two, especially with a child in tow, requires well planning. I made sure to include all the essentials: snacks, extra clothes, entertainment, and, of course, my son’s favorite toy to keep him comfortable and entertained. I also found myself packing a few more things than usual, considering the unpredictable situations that can arise with little ones. And, of course drama from my son while we are packing. He want to bring all his toys.
At the Airport – KK to KL
Arriving at the KK airport was an adventure in itself. My son’s excitement was contagious as he watched planes take off and land. He even managed to charm a few fellow passengers with his enthusiasm. Checking in was relatively smooth, though balancing our luggage, documents, and his energy took some effort!
When it was time to board, I was reminded of how traveling with kids slows you down—in the best possible way. His curiosity about every part of the airport kept us both entertained and grounded in the moment.
The Flight Experience
Once on the plane, I settled him in, and he immediately began exploring the seat, buttons, and windows. I’d prepared a bag of small activities: books for him to do his coloring and a tablet with his favorite shows downloaded. Watching him react to takeoff was priceless—there was a mix of fascination and surprise in his eyes as we lifted off the ground. We spent a good part of the flight talking about the clouds, which made me see the experience in a new light through his eyes.
One of the highlights was when the flight attendant handed out snacks. His eyes lit up, and it felt like a small victory in the midst of the busy flight.
Arriving in KL
Upon arrival, we navigated the Kuala Lumpur airport with a sense of accomplishment. My son marveled at the differences between the two airports, and I could tell he was absorbing every detail. Traveling with a child requires patience, but it also opens your eyes to details you might otherwise overlook. And, we are so excited to finally see my husband. He is waiting for us at airport. We finally reunited after 2 weeks have been separated.
Reflections on the Journey
This trip reminded me of the joy and learning that comes from travel, especially when sharing it with a child. Every moment—from watching the planes to adjusting to a new city together—was an opportunity to create memories that we’ll cherish for years to come. Traveling with my son isn’t always easy, but it's always worth it.
